How to solve the imbalance between lithium ion battery packs?

What are the causes of lithium ion battery pack imbalance?

Due to process conditions, lithium ion battery packs will always vary, even after the correct cell has been selected. The internal expansion and contraction of the cells as well as their own energy consumption will change. This will result in large differences in voltage and capacity between cells. Existing protection circuits, equalization and charging methods do not allow the battery pack to be fully charged at once. The battery packs become unbalanced and cannot reach their full potential.

How to fix the power imbalance between lithium ion battery packs

  1. Charge the entire battery pack first, then charge it for 2 to 3 hours. If the battery pack is in a prolonged power failure and cannot be charged, charge directly through the protection plate for 10 minutes (using the discharge port to charge) and then charge normally.
  2. Unplug the protection cable. Before unplugging the cables, be sure to mark them well. You cannot insert the two wires on the board backward. The voltage of the adjacent pins on the lead row is 48 V. If it is 16 volts, there are 16 volts. 60 V is 20 volts. The voltage between the negative terminal and the first row is the voltage from the positive terminal. The rest is the voltage between the negative terminal of the wire and the negative terminal of the battery pack. Find the individual string with a voltage below 3.50V and identify the positive or negative terminal. Make a mark.
  3. For single strings with voltages below 3.50v, 3.60v or 3.70v, use a 3.6v charger. To prevent the battery from overcharging, someone must be present.

The charger for lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries is different from the charger for conventional lithium-ion batteries. The maximum termination voltage for lithium batteries is 4.2v, and the maximum voltage for lithium iron phosphate battery packs is 3.65v.

We will also share routine maintenance tips for lithium-ion battery packs. The non-memory function of Li-ion batteries means they should be charged frequently and quickly after use. If the Lipo ebike has been sitting for more than 2 months, it should be fully charged again. after 5 months, the charge/discharge cycle must be completed. When the bike is not in use, the Li-ion bike should be turned off immediately. When the battery pack is not in use, it should be removed from the battery rack and placed in a different location (temperature preferably below 25/77). This is because it will continue to draw power from the controller and motor even when not in use.
