What is the meaning of battery balance?

The battery pack is composed of a plurality of lithium batteries, each of which has its own charge and discharge cutoff voltage. For example, the charge cut-off voltage of the 18650 battery is about 4.25V, and the discharge cut-off voltage is about 2.75V. Usually, as long as one lithium battery reaches the cut-off voltage, the charging and discharging processes are terminated due to the protection of the battery.

During the charging process, other lithium batteries may not reach the charge cut-off voltage, and only one lithium battery reaches the charge cut-off voltage. But for the protection of the battery, the charging process will end. This is like the principle of wooden barrels, because a "short board" causes the water storage capacity of the entire barrel to be greatly reduced, and the imbalance of the battery will cause a serious shrinkage of the cruising range.

During the discharge process, only one lithium battery may first reach the discharge cut-off voltage, and the remaining lithium batteries have a lot of discharge capacity, but the discharge process is terminated due to protection.

When the mileage of a pure electric vehicle is severely shrunk and the power is depleted, the 4S shop usually uses the equalizer to do “battery equalization” for the vehicle. The goal is to balance the charge and discharge performance of all lithium batteries to the same level as much as possible, so that the battery pack can store more power and discharge more thoroughly.
